Jackson Medical’s solution to operating room fires is improving care
ALEXANDRIA, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–MellingMedical, a leading supplier of medical supplies, equipment, devices and pharmaceuticals to federal health facilities across the country under the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) “Veterans First” procurement program, is pleased to partner with Jackson Medical to bring its GloShield safety device to health care facilities on its FSS service (V797D-50471) and DAPA agreement (SP0200-15-H-0019).
“Operating room fires are a dangerous, occasional side effect of fiber optic illumination during laser surgeries that can be easily avoided with Jackson Medical’s award-winning GloShield device,” said Chris Melling, Founder and President of the CVE-Verified Service Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business. “Even one fire is too many, so we’re proud to make America’s military and veteran patients safer with this innovative technology.”
The GloShield is the brainchild of a team formed at the Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech. Created to reduce the risk of fires and burns attributed to fiber-optic light cables (typically caused when they accidentally contact surgical drapes), the silicone-clad ceramic heat shield mitigates risk and enhances patient safety.
“No other company can provide an organization like ours the chance to serve America’s military and veterans the way MellingMedical can,” said James Rains, Jackson Medical’s president, CEO and designer of the GloShield. “Knowing our product is making operating rooms safer across the range of federal health facilities is a real honor.”
